Nutrient DENSE vs. Nutrient NUMB (Example List Below)
“Anna, what do you eat?” I hear it all the time. If you are waiting to hear a run down of some superhuman foods you’ve never tried, think again….haha… It’s fun when you realize it’s easier than you think to eat like a trainer! I don’t eat the same boring plain foods everyday. I am a health nut and very particular about what I consume but it’s not the same way a Figure Builder or Body Builder would eat. Don’t worry about getting an 8% body fat composition or anything like that. Put your focus on eating to feel energized and satisfied after your meals. Avoid feeling stuffed, bloated or tired after a meal, which many foods will do.
It’s all about quality of calories and portion control.
I want to share a list of meal or snack options that I use in my diet to give you some different food choices. Here is what I have found to be a problem for most people trying to lose weight:
They eat the same thing each week without adding much variety. They play it safe with the basic foods they know are healthy but this gets boring quick and that makes it hard to sustain. Haven’t you heard the typical meal plan of someone on a diet:
“I eat plain oatmeal for breakfast, a green salad with fish for lunch and chicken and broccoli for dinner”. All of those meals are super healthy and nutritious but after a week I would NOT feel like eating any of it. Let’s face it we are American’s, we focus our lives around eating almost as much as the Italians! So let’s make it fun, keep it fresh, add variety, and keep life exciting.
TIP: I change up my diet all the time! Variety is the spice of life and your body responds better to a variety of food groups than to eating the same meals everyday! Try a few different things this week and see how you feel. You may realize that Trying This Instead of That helps you feel better, more energized, and makes life more interesting!
Stove Top Popcorn vs Tortilla Chips
(Buy the kernels, pop them in Olive oil on the stove)
Apple or Pear vs Banana
Ezekiel Bread (with avocado and tomato) vs Wheat/White Toast with Jam
Veggie Scramble (cut up veggies and scrambled eggs, Eggs and Toast
add avocado and sprinkle on some goat cheese)
English Muffin with Almond or Peanut Butter vs Bagel with Cream Cheese
Oat Bran with Raisins, Walnuts, Maple Syrup vs Granola & Milk
Spinach Salad with Veggies and Salmon vs Romaine Lettuce & Chicken
Turkey & Veggies in a Spinach Wrap vs Turkey and Cheese Sandwich
Butternut Squash Soup with Tofu vs Chili and Chips
(Box soup from Trader Joe’s is great)
Spagetti Squash with Ground Turkey Sauce vs Spaghetti and Meat sauce
Breaded Chicken with Sweet Yam and Spinach vs Grilled Chicken & Broccoli
(Bake breaded chicken, boil the yam, and sauté spinach) vs
Balsamic Vinaigrette & Olive Oil vs Store Salad Dressings
Hummus (with Tuna) vs Mayonnaise (with Tuna)
Greek Yogurt vs Sour Cream
Maple Syrup or Agave (on oatmeal or oatbran) vs Brown Sugar
Almond Milk (in cereal or protein shake) vs Milk
Prunes vs Chocolate
Lemon Icee (mix water, lemon, agave…freeze in a cup) vs Ice cream
Red Wine vs Cosmo
Sparking Water vs Vodka and Soda
