MINIMIZE The Overwhelm

What is the best way to put a puzzle together?
By looking at the big picture right?
Imagine that your dream life is in 1000’s pieces right now and you want to put it together and make it a reality.
How would you start?
Two pieces at a time…making an effort each day to put the puzzle of your life together.
Some sections are much more difficult than others. A Big Blue sky isn’t as easy as a house, just like creating your dream job isn’t as easy as creating a healthy body.
Both take time and effort but at the end of the day you know exactly what you are trying to create.
What blows my mind is that most women don’t think it’s possible to achieve their dream life.
They either don’t know the day to day habits or practices required to piece it together or they simply don’t have the big picture (dream) guiding them in the process.
Overwhelm is the result of the unknown.
You would be overwhelmed trying to put a puzzle together if you weren’t clear on what the end result looked like and how to piece it together.
It’s most certain that you will feel overwhelmed trying to create the joy, fulfillment and success you’re striving for if you aren’t clear on the end result and the steps you need to take to achieve it.
The same goes for smaller goals and projects.
What are you trying to achieve this week, this month, this year?
Do you have a clearly defined outcome or goal?
Are your daily efforts moving you closer to that goal?
You can minimize overwhelm in your life by adopting some vital high performance behaviors.
1. Have clarity in what you are trying to achieve
Spend your attention and efforts on that project or goal daily. Ideally before all other things. I hear it all the time from busy working moms that they don’t have enough time for self care. They are overwhelmed by everything going on in their life. If your health and self care are important to you, you need to give it attention and effort daily. You have to prioritize what matters most. The laundry, dishes, TV time are always going to be there. If they get priority over your self care everyday, you are not piecing together the puzzle of a healthy mama, you are piecing together the puzzle of a tired, unhealthy maid who keeps a tidy home. Yes, you want a clean home but set aside time for both and don’t always put the chores before your self care.
2. Set benchmarks for yourself in order to see and feel progress.
Knowing that you are progressing is vital to staying motivated and rewarding enough to keep momentum. For example, I commit to a fitness program every few months so that I start and complete something that will increase my strength and fitness. I also do a yearly cleanse every February. If you don’t give yourself a plan or feel a sense of accomplishment on your journey to a healthier body, it’s like putting a puzzle together everyday only to break it apart and start over each day…you need to see your progress happening and not just on the scale or in the mirror, but in your calendar!
3. Create a Productivity Calendar to set your daily, weekly and monthly priorities.
Remember that you have to know what the end goal looks like (the big picture) and each day you are working towards something of value and importance. We can easily feel overwhelmed when our calendar is not set up effectively, giving us our game plan for success. For example: I have daily priorities to exercise, take care of my baby, eat 3 or 4 meals, check in with my clients, create 1 piece of valuable content for my tribe, hug and kiss my husband, work on any of the tasks that will help me achieve my weekly or monthly priorities.
Let’s also get clear on the definition of DREAM LIFE.
I believe you can achieve anything you truly desire in this life but it has to be aligned with who you are and what you are capable of pursuing.
I could dream of becoming the next JLo but I can’t sing AT ALL! Therefore, I’m not a naturally gifted singer who is going to pursue a career in singing.
I could however, dream of having a home on a vineyard and a second home on the coast of the mediterranean sea because I’m a hard working woman who is capable of pursuing a highly successful business that would afford me the opportunity to buy those homes.
You see the difference.
